On the doorstep of the Mediterranean there's Izola a charming little town with a long fishing tradition and a colorful history. Its name reveals that it used to be an island. The old town was built on an island, which was already inhabited in the first century a.d. and was later connected to mainland by a bridge. A wall was erected later to protect the town, but was torn down in the beginning of the 19th century and its remains used to fill in the sea between the island and the mainland. In the beginning of the 13th Izola declared independence and became a town with its own laws and rule.

KoperKoper is the main Slovenian sea port and a gate to the mainland of Central Europe. It is located on the "top" of Istria, by the Adriatic Sea. Due to its economic development, transportation infrastructure and rich cultural events the town is one of the most developed areas in Slovenia.
Koper (Capodistria in Italian) is the fifth largest city and the second most popular tourist destination in Slovenia. It is also the largest Slovenian commercial port of call on the Adriatic coast. Sights in Koper include the 15th century Praetorian Palace in Venetian Gothic style, the 12th century Carmine Rotunda church, and the Cathedral of St Nazarius with its 14th century tower.
The main tourist and leisure centres, Žusterna and Ankaran, are located in proximity where a lot of hotels, discotheques, ballrooms and other places are situated. Recreational runners, cyclists and walkers will immensely enjoy the walkway around the city and all the way to Žusterna and Izola - a pat, which follows the coast at all times.
PortorožIn the shelter of the Bay of Piran lies the tourist town of Portorož with its modern thermal spa, international airport and a large marina. Covered pools, congress tourism, cultural events and festivals all year long prove that the town is attractive every season of the year. Portorož is also a popular sports and leisure centre that can offer something to everyone. Apart from swimming in the sea and in the pools visitors can take boat trips, play water sports or rent bikes to discover the mysterious Istrian hinterlands and marvellous salt works remains that are a living testament to one of the most important activities in this part of Istria. Well equipped sports facilities attract basketball players, football and volleyball fans and numerous tennis courts host national and international tournaments.
Those who like to eat well can find many restaurants in Portorož and its vicinity, which can satisfy even the most demanding gourmets. Entertainment and musical events as well as trying out their luck at the casino are a pleasant diversion for the visitors so the nights do not pass too fast. Portorož is also attractive for those who like cultural events. The congress and cultural centre Avditorij hosts cinema performances, concerts and theatre plays. The outdoor covered amphitheatre has 3000 seats.
