Championship

The XI. World University Futsal Championship - Koper 2008 is organised under the patronage of the Slovenian University Sports Association (SUSA), and under the licence of International University Sport Federation (FISU). The 11th World University Futsal is taking place in Koper, Slovenia August 24-31, 2008. The Championship is for men only (there is a separate women's championship scheduled for September 7-13 in Vitoria, Brazil).
 

Reasons

Event experience: Slovenia has worldwide leading know-how in hosting major sport events; like handball, soccer, winter sports, futsal and others.
Sport infrastructure: Koper has one of the biggest sport halls in Slovenia, with a capacity of more than 6.000 visitors.
Futsal competence: Futsal is one of the most popular sports in Slovenia, especially among the young, and we have many excellent futsal clubs like Svea Lesna Litija. Koper has 40.000 citizens and more than 200 different futsal clubs and teams - Koper is known as a futsal town.
Tourism tradition: Being a small country, Slovenia is a popular holiday destination. Especially in summer when thousands of tourist visit the city and the beautiful sea. Koper is a whole year tourist destination due to its Mediterranean climate, easy access and a long tradition.
Geography: Its location makes Koper easily accessible for a large number of F.I.S.U. members.
Student life: Koper is an university city (University of Primorska) with more then 6.000 students; 10 minutes away by car is the University of Trieste (Italy) with more than 25.000 students and half an hour away by car lies the University of Rijeka (Croatia) with more than 17.000 students.
Security: Slovenia is very safe country with a high standard of living and enjoys domestic and international peace.

Finances

Costs

The Organising Committee charges 60.00 USD for athletes and officials per person per day for the duration of championship, including arrivals and departures (August 23 - September 1) for the official number of accredited athletes and team officials (max 12 athletes and 5 officials). Any extra delegates and or extra nights will be charged double fee (120 USD per person per day).
All participants have to pay 20.00 USD FISU fee per person (collected by FISU representative at accreditation).

Teams have to pay Deposit in the amount of 2,500 USD to FISU (by March 24, 2008). The sum will be deducted from the final payment.
Teams have to pay Deposit in the percentage at least 25% of the total amount to the Organisers (by July 24, 2008).

Championship is financed by the Central Government, Municipality department, National Students Organisation funds, sponsors and from the participation fee.
