Doubles Winners
Today, one day before the singles' finals, we have the winners in men's and women's doubles. This time, Chinese Taipei (WU Chih-Chi - CHANG Yen-Shu) won the gold in men's doubles, China (HOU Yingchao - WANG Zhen) winning silver, and Korea both bronze medals (KIM - LEE Jung Chun and YANG Dae Keun - LEE Soon U). In women's doubles, China (YU Jingwei - DAI Ningyang) won the gold, silver (LU Ying - JIAO Yongli), and Russia (TIKHOMIROVA - PROKHOROVA) and Chinese Taipei (LEE I-Chen - HUANG Yi-Hua) bronze.

Mixed Doubles Winners
Friday was marked by the finals in mixed doubles China was victorious once again, as they received gold (ZHAI Yiming - DAI Ningyang) and both bronze medals (HOU Yingchao - JIAO Yongli and GAO Xin - YU Jingwei), while silver went to Japan (ONO - ABE).

Team Finals
Today, the Team Finals have been completed. The absolute winners in team matches is China - they won the gold medal in both men and women team matches. Silver in men's team went to Chinese Taipei, and Thailand and China won the bronze. In women's team matches Russia got the silver medals (after a long and interesting matches), and Chinese Taipei and Korea bronze. See results for details.

Certificate of Academic Eligibility
We remind all competitors that they have to present the Certificate of Academic Eligibility formular at the championship to prove their student status. The certificate can also be downloaded at the Entries section.
All participants are also asked to send the rest of the forms (I and N series), or submit them online via http://event.feratel.at/fisu/. Please enter "FI06TABL" as the code, and use your username and password as provided by FISU. In case you send the forms via fax, we kindly ask you to send us the scan of the pictures via email.

ITTF Points at the WUTTC
The players participating at the 16th World University Table Tennis Championship will be given the chance to gain points for the ITTF Ranking List. In order to qualify, the participating associations have to register their players through their national table tennis associations with the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF).
All participating countries will be notified about this opportunity and the requirements via email.

Joola - Equipment provider
We can now confirm our official equipment provider: JOOLA. Joola is one of the world's top table-tennis equipment provider, and has proved successful at the previous World University Table Tennis Championship in Gyor, Hungary, in 2004. Further details about specification will be sent in an emailing to all participants and will be published at the website soon.

Pre-Payment and Entry procedure
All registered Participants are kindly asked to follow the terms and regulations, and proceed with the 25% of pre-payment which guarantees your participation. Instructions along with calculations based on anticipated number of participants have already been sent. You can also get the bank and account details under Organisation.
By the end of May, the countries participating should complete their entry procedure by filling out all the entry forms. This especially applies to those countries requiring visa to enter Slovenia. Details about that have also been sent, but please contact us if you have any questions regarding the procedures.
There has also been one small change in Team competition format: from three (3) players the limit has been raised up to five (5) players. The change was done in accordance to the changes in rules, and was suggested by FISU technical delegate.
The deadline for submitting all data is June 4, 2006 so please observe this date and take it into account so we can take care of all preparations and details in time and to ensure things will run smoothly at your arrival (and prior to it).

Record participation expected
Until the present day we have received entries from 31 countries world-wide. For a detailed list see Participants. We are still expecting a final response from some countries, and if you haven't applied yet we might just be able to squeeze you in. If you are interested, please contact us as soon as possible, as we will be soon completely closing registration.
We are already looking forward to hosting international athletes
here in Maribor at the championship which will be special for several reasons:
- This will be the first world university championship in Slovenia. It is definitely not the last one, however; we are also organising the World University Futsal Championship in Koper in 2008.

This will be the last World University Table Tennis Championship - from Summer Universiade Bangkok 2007 onwards, table tennis will be a universiade sport
- Record participation is expected. The 2004 championship which took place in Györ, Hungary, had 132 athletes participating from 25 countries. Charleroi, Belarus holds the WUTTC participation records: at the 1994 championship 140 athletes from 25 countries participated. We
- At the time of the championship the Lent cultural festival which is famous in Europe as well as overseas takes place in Maribor. We will make sure participants will be able to explore the festival's charms and features.

So far, over 20 countries to participate
We have received General Entry Forms from 21 countries up to now (see list of participating countries), and we still expect to receive more countries to register. We kindly ask you to hurry up and send in the general entry forms as soon as possible, although the deadline is now passed.
If you haven't yet received or downloaded our brochure in PDF format, you are invited to do so - see Entries for details.
Within two weeks, more information will be available about the official supplier of the equipment (tables, balls, and other necessities), along with other information so stay tuned!

Event promotion
The promotion of the 16th World University Table Tennis Championship is in full swing. We are also present at the 2006 Liebherr Slovenian Open ITTF Protour which is taking place in Velenje, Slovenia from January 18 to 22, 2006. The direct contacts and distributing the brochures supplements the promotion done so far.

VISA information and deadline extension
We extended the deadline for submitting General entry forms to February 4, 2006 (from January 4, 2006), so there is still chance to register. We have also put up an extensive list of countries not requiring VISA; all others should contact us in due time to arrange everything required to obtain VISA.

FISU Technical Delegate inspection visit
Mr. Henrik Rud Pedersen, FISU Technical Delegate, made an inspection visit to Maribor, the host city of the 16th World University Table Tennis Championship, from January 6 to 8, 2006.
Mr. Pedersen was welcomed by Mr. Ivan Rozman, the Rector of the University of Maribor and the President of the Honorary Board; Mr. Matjaz Pecovnik and Mr. Bozidar Pucnik, the Representatives of the Slovenian University Sports Association, Mr. Marjan Pucnik from the Maribor University Sports Association, Mr. Drago Zura, the Director of the Student Organisation of the University of Maribor and Mrs. Polona Cehovin – Susin, the Secretary General of the Table Tennis Association of Slovenia.
During the inspection visit, the representatives of the Organising Committee presented Mr. Pedersen the progress report and showed the accommodation, sports and catering facilities. The Technical Delegate met also with Mr. Matija Krnc, the Competition Manager and Mr. Gaj Vidmar, the Referee.
At the end of the meeting, the provisional competition programme and the activity plan were done. The FISU delegate expressed his satisfaction with the work done by the organisers so far and is looking forward to the championship.

You can either download the whole package as a ZIP file, or download each file separately, as preferred. All forms are in the PDF format (Adobe Acrobat Reader needed to open the files).

Accreditation system
All FISU members received the notification of the new online accreditation system being implemented for ALL World University Championships in 2006. Please note, however, that General and Quantitative entry forms still need to be sent in the usual way (fax or post) to the Organising committee and to the FISU office.
We applaud the new system and we hope it will improve and ease the application procedure for all parties involved.

Table Tennis to become compulsory sport at summer universiades
We are happy to inform you that the FISU Executive Committee decided to add Table Tennis to the compulsary sports programme of the Summer Universiades, starting with Bangkok 2007.

Championship logo prepared
Slovenian University Sport Association (SUSA), which is the official organiser of the event, prepared a logo draft of the 2006 Table Tennis Championship which is yet to be confirmed by the FISU executive board members.

WUTTC 2006 Organisational Board representatives in Gyor
Members of the Organisational Board visited the XV World University Table Tennis Championship in Gyor, Hungary. Slovenian delegation, with Matjaž Pečovnik, Božidar Pučnik, and Marjan Pučnik onboard, met Jozsef Kuti, the Chairman of the Organisational board, Henrik Rud Pedersen, head of technical matters, and Rudolf Sporrer, representative of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF), and presented the project of the 2006 championship in Maribor. Slovenian delegation gained some valuable knowledge and experience regarding the organisation of such an event.
After the talks, the representatives took a look at the sport grounds and distributed the promotional WUTTC 2006 fliers and Maribor guidebooks.
The visit was concluded by a formal luncheon at the rector of Szechenyi Istvan University in Gyoru, dr. Imre Czinege.

Maribor chosen as venue town for the 2006 World University Table Tennis Championship
We have some truly excellent news - the newly-elected FISU Executive committee chose Maribor as the venue town for the 16th World University Tennis Table Championship. The decision was made today in Daegu (Korea) at the Executive Committee meeting, where all WUCs for 2006 were chosen. You can read the details at the official FISU webpage (or click HERE).
